PE
Our Vision for PE at Crowle Primary Academy
At Crowle Primary Academy we use PE as a driver to develop the whole child. We learn a wide range of skills that we can apply to games and competitions. We also learn that effort, resilience and teamwork are just as important as winning.
We know that we are responsible for our own wellbeing and that leading active lifestyles is a life long choice for all staff and pupils. PE is inclusive to all; everyone should have the opportunity to participate in it, enjoy it and succeed.
Incentives:
- Staff aware that pe is a driver in developing the whole child. It is more than developing a new skill, it is about developing children who are team players and who are resilient when faced with challenges.
- PE and physical fitness are woven into everyday teaching and benefits of this are shared with staff and children e.g. brain breaks
- PE and physical activity are linked to wellbeing
- Successes are shared and celebrated – personal challenges, intra school competition and inter school competition
- Opportunities for sports leadership
At Crowle Primary Academy , we use the Get Set 4 PE Planning to support the planning and delivery of the PE curriculum. The planning encompasses all aspects of the PE curriculum and provides resources to enhance lessons e.g. suggested music and video links. Pupils access 2 hours of high quality PE per week completing a session indoor (dance, gymnastics and yoga) and outdoor (games, athletics or OAA) each week.
Our intent for PE is that it provides children with opportunities to:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- be physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives.
Implementation of PE:
Teachers create a positive attitude to PE learning within their classrooms and reinforce an expectation that all children are capable of achieving high standards. Our whole school approach to the teaching and learning of PE involves the following;
- Planning ensures that the school gives full coverage of, ‘The National Curriculum programmes of study for PE’ and, ‘Physical Development’ goals in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
- PE units are taught in pure year groups following the long term plan mapped out by the PE leader
- Teachers use the Get Set 4 PE planning as a guide and make amendments to this as needed to support the needs of the pupils in their class.
- Get Set 4 PE supply progression documents which focus on sibstantive and disciplinary knowledge and also include vocabulary grids to ensure teachers and pupils are using the correct terminology in their lessons.
Statement of impact
The impact and measure of this is to ensure children not only acquire the appropriate age related knowledge linked to the PE curriculum, but also skills which equip them to progress from their starting points, and within their everyday lives.
All children will have:
- A wider variety of skills across the breath of the PE curriculum
- Knowledge of the benefits of leading an active lifestyle and how this links to wellbeing
- A richer vocabulary which will enable to articulate their understanding of taught concepts.
